Dry Dog Food:

Dry dog food is a convenient and cost-effective food option for pet owners. Dry kibble can be left out all day for your dog to self select throughout the day. However this is not a practice we recommend as it is difficult to monitor and regulate intake. Some dry food may help improve your dog’s dental hygiene via the design of the biscuit, helping to remove and built up plaque or tartar to prevent dental disease and gingivitis.

Wet Dog Food:

Wet dog food or canned dog food is valuable for dogs as it has a higher percentage of water compared to dry dog food. The higher percentage of water content in the food helps your dog stay hydrated throughout the day. This can be particular important for breeds that are prone to urinary tract issues.

Wet dog food is good for dogs that are picky eaters, have difficulty chewing harder kibble or that are ill. It also provides some variety for dogs that are predominately fed dry kibble. Wet dog food helps ensure that your dog is getting the proteins, vitamins and minerals that they need for a healthy immune system.

It is important to note that wet dog food should not be left out for long periods of time and any leftovers or open cans should be refrigerated.

Raw Dog Food:

Raw dog food can be comprised either fresh raw meats that require refrigeration, or alternatively air or freeze dried products such as from the Ziwi Peak range, Absolute Holistic or Balanced Life which can be kept on the shelf in your cupboard (very much like a jerky). Even for dogs that are fed predominantly fresh, raw meat products, we recommended keeping one of the shelf stable brands on hand as a backup should it be required.

Plain fresh meat should always be mixed with some kind of balancer supplement to ensure that the dog is receiving the correct range of vitamins and minerals for optimum health. Feeding just plain chicken breasts or steak is a very bad idea! Products such as Predamax Carnivore Supplement or Vet's All Nature Complete Mix are ideal for this purpose.

Small, Medium and Large Breed Dog Food

Puppy Dog Food

Growing puppies need speciality attention with puppy food that will help them get the right nutrients to grow and develop. Feeding a puppy food designed for an adult dog may prevent your puppy from getting the important nutrients that it needs to support their rapid growth phase. There are also some cautions with larger breeds in managing the rate at which puppies grow to prevent issues later in life.
